We Are X, a documentary revolving around iconic Japanese rock band X JAPAN, will celebrate it’s UK premiere as part of the 60th BFI London Film Festival on October 8th and 9th.

From the production team behind the Oscar winning Searching for Sugar Man and directed by renowned music documentary filmmaker Stephen Kijak (Stones In Exile, Scott Walker: 30 Century Man), We Are X delves into the  triumphs and tragedies of a band who, since their formation in 1982, has seen massive worldwide success, selling over 30 million albums and singles, as well as sold-out tours worldwide. In regards to film Kijak remarked “I might have to quit music films after this one. The story is so unreal, I don’t know where else I could go after this.” Members of the filmmaking crew are expected to attend the festival, including legendary X JAPAN co-founder and drummer Yoshiki.

First premiering at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival in Utah where it won the Special Jury Award for Best Editing, the film went on to play at SXSW in Austin, Texas, scoring an Audience Award for Excellence in Title Design.

The band will also perform at London’s SSE Wembley Arena on March 4, 2017 to celebrate the release of their first new studio album in 20 years which will be available later this year.

Tickets are still available for both screenings over at BFI.org.uk.
