Ako pays tribute to London subcultures in ‘Mona Lisa’ video shot at Hackney’s Rio Cinema

Ako has released her new digital single ‘Mona Lisa’ alongside its music video, filmed at the historic Rio Cinema in Hackney, London.

Directed by Joseph Delaney, a London-based creative known for his work with UK artists such as Witch Fever, Cassyette, and HMLTD, the video serves as Ako’s love letter to London’s music subcultures through the ages, framed within the Art Deco surroundings of the Grade II listed venue.

Out now via Pony Canyon, ‘Mona Lisa’ was written following Ako’s performance at The Great Escape Festival in Brighton earlier this year. Drawing on her admiration for the UK and Europe, the song follows a narrator wrestling with frustration and desire, repeating the lines “I am a villain” and “I’m your Mona Lisa” as affirmations of self-possession.

Alongside the single, Ako will embark on her largest tour to date, Ako LIVE TOUR 2025 “Odyssey”, with dates set for October 19th at Namba Hatch in Osaka, October 24th at Zepp DiverCity in Tokyo, and October 31st at Legacy Taipei, her first live performance in Taiwan. Tickets for the Osaka and Tokyo shows are also available to overseas fans via eplus.
