Junko Yagami has been added to the line-up for Palace Bowl Presents City Pop Waves, joining Masayoshi Takanaka, Himiko Kikuchi, and Ginger Root at London’s first outdoor festival devoted to city pop.
The event takes place on August 7th at Crystal Palace Bowl and forms part of Live Nation’s City Pop Waves series.
Yagami was a consistent presence on the Japanese charts during the late 1970s and 1980s. She made her full-scale debut in 1978 and went on to score major hits including ‘Mizuiro no Ame’ and ‘Purple Town’, while her 1983 single ‘Tasogare no Bay City’ has since become one of the most streamed city pop tracks outside Japan amid the genre’s revival. Over the course of her career, she has released 25 albums and in 2022 became the first Japanese artist inducted into the Women Songwriters Hall of Fame in Washington, D.C.

Since relocating to the United States in 1986, where she has also recorded under the name June Stanley, Yagami has maintained an active performing career, returning regularly to Japan for tours and live projects. Her long-running club series “The Night Flight”, held in collaboration with producer and bassist Tsugutoshi Goto since 2014, continues this year with dates at Billboard Live venues in Yokohama, Tokyo and Osaka.

Early Entry and the first General Admission release for Palace Bowl Presents City Pop Waves have sold out, with the second General Admission release now on sale via the official festival website.
