After a strong music career spanning over 2 decades, electronic rock duo BOOM BOOM SATELLITES have announced that their new EP LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME will be their last.

In 2012 the pair cancelled their nationwide tour due to guitarist Kawashima showing early symptoms of a brain tumour. It was later revealed that he has had a history of brain tumour issues, but they never had to cancel shows before. Now, in a recent post on their facebook page, Nakano details that Kawashima’s condition has worsened, and that paralysis and other complications have caused the duo to cease any further activity.

“This is BOOM BOOM SATELLITES’ final release. Paralysis and other complications with Michiyuki Kawashima’s brain tumor have made it so. Michiyuki Kawashima has now closed his life as a musician and is spending his days living peacefully with his family. Although words come slowly, he can still speak. His arms and legs have become impaired, and he relies on a wheelchair more and more. It is difficult to communicate clearly with him; at times even I don’t know what he’s thinking.”

“But I can feel his aura of completeness and achievement. To me, he looks like a husk that has poured its very life force into this final work. I want to call out to him, “Thank you! You’ve done your best!””

Out June 22nd, LAY YOUR HANDS ON ME is now available for pre-order from CDJapan.co.jp, and features four new tracks that will be, in Nakano’s own words, “befitting of the final, closing curtain of our band’s history”.
