Singer-songwriter mei ehara will release her third studio album ‘All About McGuffin’ on September 12th 2025 for digital distribution worldwide. A Japan only CD edition will follow on September 17th via Kakubarhythm.
Her first full-length release since 2020’s ‘Ampersands’, the new record arrives after several years of collaborative work, including vocals on Cornelius’ ‘Change and Vanish’, the CHS project ‘SWELTERING NIGHT’, and a contribution to ‘Hosono House Revisited’, celebrating the 50th anniversary of Haruomi Hosono’s solo debut ‘Hosono House’. She also performed as the support act for Faye Webster’s 2024 Underdressed at the Symphony US tour, building on a collaborative relationship that began with Webster’s 2021 track ‘Overslept’.
‘All About McGuffin’ includes 10 tracks, among them previously released songs ‘Game Over’, ‘Picture’, and ‘Mada Hayai Kudamono’, alongside lead single ‘Sad Driver’ (‘Kanashii Untenshu’), released to streaming platforms on July 9th. The album reunites ehara with longtime bandmates Masamichi Torii (Triple Fire), Kouki Hama, Coff, and Naruki Numazawa. Tadashi Nakamura, who also mixed ehara’s 2017 debut ‘Sway’, returned to mix the album, with mastering by LA-based engineer Jake Viator (Stones Throw Records). The sleeve features an otherworldly cavern illustration by Brooklyn artist Patrick Edell.

Speaking about the album, ehara noted that ‘All About McGuffin’ encompasses her personal changes over the past five years and that she aimed to keep the work simple and direct.
This time, I will be releasing my third album ‘All About McGuffin’.
At a certain point, I began wanting to create this work as a simple and unembellished piece, portraying myself as a universal yet clumsy human being.
In the end, I feel I was able to faithfully shape my mental and emotional changes over the past few years into a cohesive story that is this album.
I think simplicity is something very romantic.
You might discover some point of connection with me somewhere in the album.
It may be rare these days to listen to an album all the way from the first track to the last, but I would be very happy if you did.
I hope to have the opportunity to share more details another time, but in short—I am very satisfied. And I am truly grateful to everyone who was involved.
To coincide with the release, ehara will hold her All About McGuffin TOUR US & JAPAN tour, beginning with a four-city US run from September 23rd in San Francisco, followed by stops in Los Angeles, New York, and Chicago. A headline show at WWW X in Shibuya, Tokyo caps off the tour on October 19th. Tickets for the US dates go on sale Friday, July 11th.
