Garage rock trio DURAN return with one-take album ‘Vornak’

Rock outfit DURAN will release their fifth album ‘Vornak’ on November 21st via Electric Gospel Records. Available on 12-inch vinyl, CD and digital formats, it is the first DURAN studio release to present the group as a band rather than a solo-led project.

Frontman Duran produced, recorded and mixed the album with MASAE on bass and Shiho on drums, tracking it live in single takes at Live Music & Bar Maman straight to tape. Mastering was handled by Soichiro Nakamura at Peace Music Studio, while Atsuo of Boris created the hand-drawn cover artwork.

‘Vornak’ is a garage rock record at its core, cut with hard rock and streaks of blues. Across eleven tracks the band tear through themes of anger, lust, ruin and money with fuzz-heavy riffs and unvarnished vocals. The set closes with ‘Mondo Blues’, the only track credited to all three members, with the rest of the album’s lyrics and music written by Duran. A cover of Kanye West’s ‘Black Skinhead’ also makes the cut, stripped of electronics and reduced to the band’s three-piece rock arrangement.

Guests on the record include vocals from Nana Hatori on ‘Woman’, behind-the-scenes contributor to artists including HYDE, L’Arc-en-Ciel, and SEGA’s Sonic Forces.

To support the release, DURAN will embark on the Vornak tour beginning November 25th at Chiba LOOK. The Japan leg includes stops in Nagoya, Umeda, Yamanashi, Kyoto, Kobe, Hiroshima, and Tokyo, before the band heads overseas for six dates in the Philippines next June, followed by three shows in Thailand.

About DURAN

DURAN is the stage name of Japanese-Filipino guitarist, singer and songwriter Naito Duran Haruhisa. He first came to prominence as a member of LDH J-rock outfit The ROOTLESS, joining in 2009 for both their indie and Avex debuts before leaving in 2013. A short stint with Tokyo blues rock unit a flood of circle followed, and in 2016 he became a founding member of RED DIAMOND DOGS alongside EXILE’s Atsushi, Phekoo, and Fuyu. Duran launched his solo career in 2017 with the album 'Face', collaborating with artists such as B’z’s Koshi Inaba, Kiyoharu, and Exile Atsushi. Over the following years, the DURAN name became attached to a series of stylistically varied albums, from psychedelic rock ('Kaleido Garden', 2021) to avant-garde ('Electric Man', 2023) and blues ('30 Scratchy Backroad Blues', 2024). By 2025 DURAN was no longer seen as a solo project but as a three-piece band with MASAE on bass and Shiho on drums. The trio had already been performing together for years, with highlights including a sold-out Shibuya Spotify O-East show in 2021, a packed Ebisu LIQUIDROOM in 2024, a tour in France, and an eight-date headline run in the Philippines. Outside of his own releases, Duran has appeared on some of Japan’s biggest stages. Recently he joined Fujii Kaze on his international tours, as well as Kaze’s support slot for Billie Eilish at Saitama Super Arena in August 2025, and toured with VAUNDY on his little punk run earlier the same year.
