HYDE releases orchestral ballad ‘THE ABYSS’ with Salzburg-shot video on his 57th birthday

HYDE has released the music video for his new single ‘THE ABYSS’, which arrived on January 29th to coincide with his 57th birthday.

The video was filmed entirely in Salzburg, Austria, where HYDE currently serves as a tourism ambassador. Directed by Mika Yamaguchi and produced with support from local cultural institutions and tourism bodies, it places HYDE within a range of historic settings across the city, making use of its gothic architecture and classical venues. According to the official description, the production centres on an atmosphere of beauty and mystique, matching the song’s orchestral scale and restrained tone.

Its release landed alongside HYDE’s birthday, with fans worldwide celebrating the day through fanart, themed cakes and collages of his evolving image over the past three decades. Much of the response also expressed anticipation for his ongoing HYDE Orchestra Tour 2026 JEKYLL, which is currently underway in Japan. The tour, supporting HYDE’s forthcoming album ‘JEKYLL’, now confirmed for digital release on March 11th with a CD edition to follow in May, will include an overseas performance at the Wiener Konzerthaus, Großer Saal in Vienna on May 25th.

‘THE ABYSS’ follows ‘NOSTALGIC’ and ‘FINAL PIECE’, released in 2021, as the third entry in HYDE’s series built around the concept of shizu, or stillness. The single also includes a newly recorded orchestral version of ‘LAST SONG’, originally featured on 2024’s ‘HYDE [INSIDE]’.

‘THE ABYSS’ is available now on streaming platforms. The first-press limited edition of the single includes bonus footage featuring the video and a short documentary.
