Crystal Lake have confirmed PK, the Korean-born frontman of Tokyo metalcore band Prompts, as their new vocalist and a full member. The announcement, made on August 21st, formalises a role he first took on as an emergency stand-in earlier this year, and closes a loop that runs back almost a decade to a festival crowd in Busan.
“One of the biggest reasons I decided to move from Korea to Japan and continue pursuing music was Crystal Lake”, PK said in his statement, calling the role one that carries “a great sense of responsibility and pressure”. He intends, he said, to leave his own mark on the band alongside his respect for what they have already made.
Speaking to Wall of Sound in June, PK recalled first seeing Crystal Lake at the 2016 Busan International Rock Festival, a performance that changed his perception of what an Asian heavy band could achieve internationally. “But when I saw Crystal Lake, their performance, their songs were too catchy and it’s kind of world class”, he said.
Giving more details in a 2021 interview with SATANIC ENT, PK said Yul, vocalist of Busan metalcore band End These Days and a friend since high school, introduced him to then-Crystal Lake vocalist Ryo Kinoshita at the festival. PK told Ryo he planned to move to Japan and pursue music, with Kinoshita telling him to make contact once he reached Tokyo.
Keeping to this word, PK later relocated to Japan to join Prompts as vocalist, and eventually collaborated directly with Ryo when the former Crystal Lake frontman guested on the Prompts track ‘Asphyxiate’. Discovering the band in Korea, recording with their frontman, and then taking that frontman’s old job is about as complete an arc as it gets.
His actual route into Crystal Lake was far less romantic. The band parted ways with vocalist John Robert Centorrino in March this year, originally citing the toll international touring took on family life. Telling Metal on Tap the story in June, PK said guitarist and bandleader YD phoned him at 7am while he was visiting family in South Korea, three days out from an April run, and asked him to return to Japan and front the band with no rehearsal. “The members told me, ‘If you don’t do this, we have to cancel the tour.’ So I had to do it for the legacy”, he said.

PK fronted Crystal Lake across their May Australian tour with Of Mice & Men, and YD was already talking like he’d made up his mind. “His style fits perfectly with Crystal Lake and really pushes the emotional side of our songs even further”, he told The Note ahead of the tour. Asked outright by HEAVY Magazine whether PK might stay for good, YD said the band would take their time deciding, then added: “Everything is very positive though”. Four months on, the decision is official.
PK joining Crystal Lake hasn’t put the brakes on his frontman duties with Prompts. The band head to Europe for the first time this November, joining Half Me for all 21 dates of their European Crusade 2026 alongside Lastelle and Kora Winter. Prompts also released the seven-track EP ‘Parasite Dream’ on June 16th through Greyscale Records and Papercut Recordings, having become Papercut’s first signing from Asia earlier this year.
His appointment also opens the door to the first Crystal Lake material of the post-‘The Weight of Sound’ era, though nothing has been announced. In April, YD told The Note that the pair had not yet discussed writing together while PK remained a support member, with the focus instead on preparing for the live shows.
Crystal Lake’s schedule remains busy. The band support Fear Factory across Europe on the Cybernetic Domination Tour through September and October, before returning home for THE ARGUMENT on October 25th and TRUE NORTH FESTIVAL at Toyosu PIT on November 22nd, the first edition of their festival to be staged since 2019.

About Crystal Lake
Crystal Lake are a Tokyo metalcore band formed in 2002, with a history that stretches from Japan's early-2000s hardcore scene to an international touring career across Asia, Europe, North America and Australia. Built around founding guitarist Yudai 'YD' Miyamoto, the band have gone through several distinct eras and vocalists while steadily expanding beyond Japan. Their catalogue runs from early hardcore-rooted releases such as 'Dimension' and 'Into the Great Beyond' through the internationally recognised Ryo Kinoshita era and albums including 'The Sign', 'True North' and 'Helix', to their current lineup fronted by Prompts vocalist PK. The band were started by guitarist Shinya Hori, who placed a members-wanted advert in punk magazine DOLL after moving to Tokyo for university. YD was among those who responded, while original vocalist Kentaro Nishimura joined in early 2003. Crystal Lake began looking outside Japan almost immediately, travelling to South Korea within their first handful of shows and later building links with bands and promoters across the Asian hardcore scene. Their early releases included the 'Blood of Judas' split in 2004 and a three-way split with Risen and Unboy the following year. A Malaysian tour followed before Crystal Lake released their debut album 'Dimension' in 2006, which took them on their first nationwide headline run. They spent the following years sharing stages with visiting overseas bands in Japan and toured with Parkway Drive and Shai Hulud in 2009 before releasing second album 'Into the Great Beyond' in 2010. Nishimura left after the sold-out Into the Great Beyond tour final in 2011. Ryo Kinoshita joined the following year, alongside Gaku Taura initially coming into the band as a support drummer. Although Ryo became closely associated with Crystal Lake's increasingly heavy sound, he later noted that the shift was already underway before he joined and that his own style fitted the direction the existing members were pursuing. The 'Cubes' EP in 2014 brought Crystal Lake to a wider audience in Japan, followed by appearances at SUMMER SONIC and KNOTFEST JAPAN. 'The Sign' arrived in 2015 and became a key step in their international growth, with overseas releases through Artery Recordings in the United States and JPU Records in Europe. 'True North' followed in 2016, with Crystal Lake taking the album across Asia and embarking on their first European headline tour the following year. They also launched TRUE NORTH FESTIVAL in Tokyo in 2017. 'Helix' continued that expansion, receiving an international release through SharpTone Records in 2019 as Crystal Lake became increasingly established on touring circuits outside Japan. The band revisited their earlier catalogue with 'The Voyages' in 2020, re-recording songs from the pre-Ryo years and bringing Nishimura back as a guest on 'The Passage'. Hori left Crystal Lake later in 2020, leaving YD as the band's sole remaining founder. Longtime support members Gaku and bassist Mitsuru were made official members in 2021, while former HER NAME IN BLOOD guitarist Hisatsugu 'TJ' Taji joined at the same time. Kinoshita departed in 2022 after a decade as vocalist. Crystal Lake launched the public THE LIGHT audition to find his replacement, ultimately bringing in American vocalist John Robert Centorrino in 2023. The band subsequently signed with Century Media Records and released 'The Weight of Sound' on January 23rd, 2026, their first original album since 'Helix'. Centorrino left in March 2026 after the demands of Crystal Lake's international touring schedule became increasingly difficult to balance with family life. Prompts vocalist PK initially stepped in for live dates before being confirmed as Crystal Lake's new vocalist and a full member on August 21st. The current lineup is PK on vocals, YD and TJ on guitars, Mitsuru on bass, and Gaku on drums.
