ASHA and KOKONA, who both rose to prominence through the BMSG x CHANMINA girl group audition No No Girls, are set to debut as new unit TAKARA. The duo will release their self-produced debut single ‘Time is money’ digitally on August 8th. They arrive as the second act on NO LABEL ARTISTS, the self-produced label headed by CHANMINA.
The debut was revealed as a surprise in a video posted to YouTube on August 5th, in which the pair, dressed in kimono, write out the word “TAKARA” in calligraphy. It comes roughly a year and a half after No No Girls THE FINAL, with the two spending the intervening period preparing for their launch as artists.
TAKARA follow HANA and FUMINO as the third act to emerge from No No Girls. ASHA drew attention during the audition for her unconventional worldview and tough rap skills, while KOKONA won viewers over with her emotional vocals and expressive performances. Self-production is central to the unit’s identity, with the pair writing and producing ‘Time is money’ themselves.
Beyond the title and release date, almost nothing has been revealed about the single, and the audio remains under wraps ahead of Saturday’s release.
About TAKARA
TAKARA are a duo formed by ASHA and KOKONA, contestants on No No Girls, the 2024 girl group audition produced by BMSG and CHANMINA that drew around 7,000 applicants and created the seven-member group HANA. KOKONA, who previously competed on PRODUCE 101 JAPAN THE GIRLS in 2023, reached the audition’s final ten, while ASHA’s run ended in the fourth round, where she co-created the original song ‘GET OUT’ alongside CHIKA and MAHINA. The pair now debut on NO LABEL ARTISTS, CHANMINA’s self-produced imprint, following FUMINO’s launch as the label’s first artist in January of this year.
