Number_i share Sho Hirano–produced love song ‘3XL’

Number_i have released their new digital single ‘3XL’ worldwide today, January 29th, coinciding with producer Sho Hirano’s 29th birthday. The track is the group’s first title release to place a love theme squarely at its centre.

Musically, ‘3XL’ rides a low-slung, bass-led groove, setting a light pop framework beneath lyrics built around direct, sometimes awkward romantic confession. Hirano has described it as an unusual choice for Number_i, noting that it is rare for the group to lead with a love song. He characterised the track as a “cute, slightly mysterious” piece.

The accompanying video adopts a fever-dream fantasy aesthetic, continuing the group’s recent maximalist visual approach. Number_i are placed inside a storybook-like, artificial world of oversaturated colour and Willy Wonka–esque sets, where light-hearted humour is offset by a looming sense that something isn’t quite right.

‘3XL’ follows a strong start to 2026 for the group. Earlier this month, their playlist albums ‘DAiLY&SUN’, ‘DAiLY&LOVE’ and ‘DAiLY&CHILL’ occupied the top three spots across iTunes and Oricon’s digital album rankings. Their second album ‘No.II‘, released in September 2025, has also continued to chart heavily, remaining in the upper tier months after release.
