LUNA CHEE

LUNA CHEE are a LUNA SEA-approved visual kei tribute project created by McDonald’s Japan in 2025 to promote its limited-time Chee Chee burgers. Their name plays on LUNA SEA, and their ads rework the band’s 1994 song ‘ROSIER’ with cheeseburger-themed lyrics while recreating the look of its original music video. LUNA CHEE were formed for an advertising campaign and are not a conventional recording or touring band.

The original five-member line-up featured actor Seishiro Kato in the on-screen role of LUNA SEA vocalist RYUICHI, with HARUTO (LUNA RIVER) and HIROTO (Alice Nine.) on guitar, Yue (KIZU) on bass, and Hibiki (Matenrou Opera) on drums. RYUICHI impersonator tam tam supplied the recorded lead vocal for the parody, and the first ad began airing in Japan on August 19th 2025. Kato studied the camera work and RYUICHI’s movements in the ‘ROSIER’ video, checking his expressions in a mirror beside the camera, while RYUICHI himself made a surprise visit to tam tam’s recording session to give singing advice. All five LUNA SEA members also filmed their reactions to the finished ad for a separate web video.

LUNA CHEE returned in November 2026 for Minna de LUNA CHEE (“LUNA CHEE all together”), once again recreating ‘ROSIER’ for McDonald’s seasonal menu. Kato, HARUTO, HIROTO, Yue, and Hibiki reprised their roles, and tam tam returned alongside a much larger cast from Japan’s visual kei and rock scenes. McDonald’s billed the shoot as 100 artists from 19 bands, LUNA CHEE included, but its name-by-name credit list and group photo both show 105 people, made up of 21 vocalists, 42 guitarists, 21 bassists, and 21 drummers. All five members of DuelJewel, Misui, NICOLAS, vistlip, Z CLEAR, and Zeke Deux took part, along with members of NIGHTMARE, DEZERT, lynch., cali≠gari, Unlucky Morpheus, and other bands.

During the 2026 shoot, LUNA SEA bassist J arrived unannounced to encourage the performers, telling them they were all LUNA SEA. Several participants later reflected on LUNA SEA’s influence and on the memory of drummer Shinya, who died in February 2026. The 30-second version of Minna de LUNA CHEE began airing across Japan on November 3rd 2026.
