Otoboke Beaver are a punk rock quartet hailing from Kyoto, and you better remember that, or they’ll rip you a new one.

Dropping their international debut album later this month and making their UK live debut in May, this deranged garage punk band are part of a new wave of feminist Japanese bands and since coming together in 2009 have built up a strong fan-base in Kyoto, Osaka and Tokyo, sharing with the likes of Shonen Knife, BO NINGEN, BOREDOMS and Guitar Wolf.

Compared to the queercore sounds of NYC unit God Is My Co-Pilot and Osaka’s own noise punk lot Afrirampo, Otoboke Beaver (named after a love hotel) are influenced by western Riot Grrrl attitudes, with song themes mostly consisting of saying a big screw you to bad love, devious boyfriends and general sexism. Ex-Shonen Knife drummer Emi Morimoto called them “splendid”, stating “their cute looks and crazy performance won my heart” and “people in the UK will certainly become their captive”.

Their new album Okoshiyasu!! Otoboke Beaver gets it’s CD and digital release on March 11th via London label Damnably (Shonen Knife, Wussy) and is now available for pre-order from Amazon.co.uk and iTunes. Plus this May they’ll be hitting the road for their first set of UK shows starting at London’s DIY POPFEST and mini-festival Walpurgis Nacht on May 1st, continuing on to shows in Coventry, Nottingham, and Leicester.
