HARU NEMURI reveals ‘panopticon’ single and North American tour plans

HARU NEMURI will release her new single ‘panopticon’ on Friday May 9th. Featuring guest vocals from singer-songwriter Yukichi Kasaku/men, the track is the latest preview of her upcoming third album ‘ekkolaptómenos’, due August 1st.

Earlier this week, NEMURI shared a teaser trailer on social media, offering a first look at what she describes as a song about “refusing the rules carved into our bodies”. ‘panopticon’ is her second release under her independent label, also named ekkolaptómenos. Since going independent in January, she has committed to a more direct and unfiltered approach to both sound and structure.

Lyrically, the track addresses surveillance, resistance, and personal agency. In a statement released with the announcement, HARU NEMURI writes:

“We are often deceived into believing that the rules carved into our bodies are our own choices. But the first step toward resistance is realizing we can refuse. It begins in the cracks—where fragments of an unknown <I> or <you> emerge. Even in the depths of solitude, we can gaze back at the center of power. For me, dance is one such act of resistance. I dedicate this song to all the souls overlooked by normative choreography.” 

Yukichi Kasaku/men contributes chorus vocals on ‘panopticon’, providing a subtle but deliberate addition to the track. Known for their idiosyncratic songwriting and early work with Dempagumi.inc, the 21-year-old artist began releasing music on SoundCloud as a teenager. Their writing often prioritises rhythm and wordplay over fixed structure, favouring instinct over convention.

The single appears as track three on ‘ekkolaptómenos’, an 11-track, self-produced record that marks HARU NEMURI’s first full-length release since parting ways with a major label.

The full album rollout includes a nine-date North American tour, starting in Los Angeles this September, with stops in Chicago, Toronto, and New York. The tour follows a string of international dates, including a 2024 North American run and a recent tour of China. Together, these shows have helped reaffirm her reputation as one of the most uncompromising voices in underground music.
