Tokyo’s post-black metal outfit Asunojokei return with their third full-length album, ‘Think of You’, a winter-themed escape from one of the city’s hottest summers on record. Released on August 6th, the nine-track record arrived alongside a new music video for ‘Zeppelin’, unveiled on the band’s YouTube channel the same day.
Following the success of 2022’s ‘Island’, a summer-inspired fusion of J-pop melodies and black metal intensity, ‘Think of You’ moves into colder territory. The album takes a seasonal shift, pairing melodic arrangements with straight-talking, realistic lyrics. The ‘Zeppelin’ music video visualises the album’s atmosphere, presenting wide, frozen vistas that match the record’s frosty tone.
For ‘Think of You’, Asunojokei reunited with ‘Island’ mixing engineers Lewis Johns (Rolo Tomassi, Svalbard) and Katsuya (SLOTHREAT, Misanthropist). Mastering was handled by Grant Berry of Fader Mastering, while illustrator Redregenmann provided the icy cover art.
Formed in 2014, Asunojokei, Daiki Nuno (vocals), Kei Toriki (guitar), Takuya Seki (bass) and Seiya Saito (drums), have become a staple of the blackgaze genre with a sound that merges J-pop’s melodic sensibilities, shoegaze’s textural depth and the weight of black metal. Since 2023, they have toured extensively across Japan and overseas, with solo dates selling out in multiple countries.
Swap the summer heat for ‘Think of You’, out now across digital platforms and on CD via Bandcamp.
