ACIDMAN planetarium film and Shuta Hasunuma included in JAXA’s space-themed Sagamihara festival

This October, Sagamihara teams up with JAXA for a two-day celebration of space, music, art, food and science, with ACIDMAN’s Nobuo Ohki and composer Shuta Hasunuma leading its music programme.

UCHU KOSATEN SAGAMIHARA (COSMIC INTERSECTION SAGAMIHARA) takes place on October 11th-12th across the Sagamihara City Museum and JAXA’s Sagamihara Campus in Kanagawa Prefecture. Co-organised by the City of Sagamihara and JAXA’s Institute of Space and Astronautical Science (ISAS), it is part of a wider initiative presenting Sagamihara as “a city where space feels close”.

Among the highlights is screenings of the stars are here~music by ACIDMAN~, the third planetarium film supervised and narrated by Nobuo Ohki, vocalist and guitarist of the band. First premiered at Cosmo Planetarium Shibuya in March, the 25-minute work draws inspiration from Charles and Ray Eames’ 1977 short Powers of Ten, using updated scientific data to zoom from the scale of the universe into human cells. Scored entirely with ACIDMAN’s music, it also features a newly recorded self-cover of ‘Hikari no Yoru’, originally written by Ohki for yama in 2022, available exclusively within the dome setting. The film screens twice on October 12th at the Sagamihara City Museum.

Shuta Hasunuma, the Tokyo-based artist and composer known for applying his musical approach across film, theatre and installation, will perform a special planetarium concert on the same day. His live set will be accompanied by ultra-high-resolution 8K projections of one billion stars inside the Sagamihara City Museum’s newly upgraded dome. The performance runs from 12:30 to 13:15 and is free with advance registration.

Beyond music, the festival offers five themed areas: a Space Creators Market with more than 20 artists and designers selling goods and artworks; a Space Gourmet section serving Saturn Burgers, Milky Way Tacos, and gelato made with soybeans that have travelled aboard the ISS; and a Space Art Exhibition at the JAXA campus, which continues until mid-November.

Supported by creative agencies Camp Inc. and KAYAC Inc., the festival coincides with the renewal of Sagamihara City Museum’s planetarium earlier this year, which became the first in the world to combine 8K visuals with projections of a billion stars.
