Hitsujibungaku have announced that drummer Hiroa Fukuda will depart from the band at the end of 2025. The news was confirmed on the group’s official website on December 30th, alongside statements from Fukuda and his bandmates.
Fukuda has been on hiatus since May 2024 while focusing on his health. According to the announcement, he has decided to part ways with the band and intends to continue his musical activities after leaving.
In his statement, Fukuda noted his decade-long involvement with Hitsujibungaku and thanked vocalist and guitarist Moeka Shiotsuka and bassist Yurika Kasai for their time together, as well as the band’s staff and label teams. He asked fans to continue supporting both the band and his future work.
Hiroa Fukuda (drums)
“Dear fans who have always supported Hitsujibungaku: Hiroa Fukuda here.
After about ten years in Hitsujibungaku, I have decided to go my separate way.
To my bandmates, Moeka Shiotsuka (guitar/vocals) and Yurika Kasai (bass/chorus), thank you so much for being in the band with me over the years. I am truly grateful.
I would also like to express my sincere appreciation to the management team, our record label, and all the staff who have supported Hitsujibungaku through live performances and beyond.
I, Hiroa Fukuda (drums), plan to continue my musical activities moving forward.
I kindly ask for your continued support for both Hitsujibungaku and myself in the future.”
Moeka Shiotsuka (guitar, vocals)
“There have been many moments when I’ve thought, “We’ve come this far thanks to Fukuda.”
At crucial moments, he was the one who gave me the push I needed when I couldn’t make up my mind. Every step of Hitsujibungaku’s journey has been supported by his unique presence and beautiful drum phrases. Thank you.
I was truly happy to hear that he will continue his musical journey. Please play freely and wholeheartedly again.
To all of you who have always supported us, I apologize for not being able to share better news. Hitsujibungaku and Fukuda will continue with our respective activities, and we would be grateful if you could keep us in your thoughts from time to time.”
Yurika Kasai (bass, chorus)
“Fukuda’s delicate and determined drum playing, as well as his thorough dedication to his passion, encouraged me in many situations throughout our activities.
Fukuda has given so much to Hitsujibungaku, which, I believe, will never fade.
Thank you so much for building and being the pillar of Hitsujibungaku.
As a member of Hitsujibungaku, and as a musician and a human, I will continue to improve myself, so that I don’t have to be ashamed of myself when I see Fukuda in my life ahead.
I would be happy if you could keep your warm eyes on Fukuda and Hitsujibungaku.”
The band will continue their activities as a duo with support musicians. During Fukuda’s hiatus, Yuna of CHAI has been supporting Hitsujibungaku as a live drummer, including appearances on their debut European tour earlier this year.
