Jazz-rock visual kei band Fukuro have released their new track ‘CHOCOLATE WAR’. The song dropped, along with a music video, on May 19th.
Frontman Yoshiatsu had been teasing the song across his socials prior to the release of ‘CHOCOLATE WAR’, hinting at an anti-war theme. 5 days before the release, teaser images began appearing on Fukuro’s socials displaying what appeared to be a Fukuro branded chocolate bar, gradually unwrapping, eventually revealing the word “WAR” in melted chocolate on the stool below.
The lyrics, written by Yoshiatsu, allude to the horrors and the selfishness of war. Lines like “The sirens call the end, Hands holding tight, Hands torn apart” and “Killing children as life goes on, What smile will you wear tomorrow?” are juxtaposed with Yoshiatsu emphatically singing out “I just want some chocolate, that’s all!”. Fans can read the full lyrics, in English, in the video subtitles.
The song’s main musical hook has a horror vibe, with its melody in a minor key. It evokes a cartoonish image which contrasts with the darkness of the words, similarly to the contrast between the lyrics themselves. Meanwhile, Yoshiatsu noted on social media that “I’m not trying to say anything profound. The words I speak have always been nothing more than jokes”.

The words I speak have always been nothing more than jokes.
I’m simply saying to my beloved friends all around the world,
“Are you really okay with that? Remember who you are.

Alongside the release, Fukuro also revealed new looks.

Limited edition ‘CHOCOLATE WAR’ cheki will be available via the band’s web shop from 12am JST on May 21st until 12pm on May 25th. Also, new acrylic stands will be available, with randomly selected individual stands and a full set on offer.
Fukuro will hold a birthday oneman for Yoshiatsu, titled “I AM MONEY”, on May 20th at Shibuya Chelsea Hotel. Exclusive merchandise has been revealed, only available at the concert. Fans can grab tickets at the door.
And, in other Yoshiatsu related news, a recent post proved to be too much for fans. The pinned tweet, from May 15th, simply says “F*** YOU”, with replies ranging from apologetic to horny on main. Likewise, fan reaction to Yoshiatsu’s other project, DRUGS’, recent merch drop has been close to the latter sentiment.
