Visual kei supergroup DRUGS have revealed new merchandise using moulds of their middle fingers, quite literally giving the finger to fans.
The made to order keychains were first teased on the band members’ social media, showing photos of silicone moulds. Fans speculated what it might be, but few guessed that it would be keychains of each member’s right middle fingers. The keychains, available now via the band’s official shop, cost ¥10,000 each (approximately £46/€54/$63USD) and feature the member’s middle fingers in slime green resin, capturing the shape and texture of each, including tattoos and nails.
With one of the most, if not the most, unusual merch drops we’ve seen in a while, fans have been suggesting uses for the fingers, from holding them when they’re anxious, to… well, we don’t need to say what. In response to this, some fans have been urging others to be sensible with the member’s fingers.
DRUGS also unveiled new looks ahead of their upcoming 3rd oneman live, ” THE DOPES “ on August 28th at Shibuya WOMB.
The band released their first full album ‘D/D/D’ this year, dropping across streaming platforms on April 2nd, and first made available on CD on February 17th at their 2nd oneman show,【THE NORMAL】. The album features 8 songs, including latest track ‘Baku’. In an interview with Japanese visual kei publication, VISUNAVI, the band members discussed the importance of a physical CD release, and only publishing the lyrics in the CD booklet.
“…with DRUGS, we wanted to make it so that you wouldn’t know what Tsuzuku’s lyrics were until you bought the CD, and we were particular about the idea that if you wanted to understand them, you should pick up the CD. We even told Tsuzuku, ‘Don’t include the lyrics until the CD is released.'”
Yoshiatsu
Bassist Wataru Shindo noted that the members have been surprised at the number of CDs being ordered from overseas, “I think there’s a collector’s mentality at play, but I felt that people still want to have physical items to keep. It was good to realize that even as times change, some fundamental aspects of our lives remain the same”.
Also, recently, DRUGS drummer Yoshiatsu (Fukuro) has teased at a new DRUGS song and music video. Posting on social media, he stated “Both bands [DRUGS and Fukuro] will also be releasing new songs soon”. He later described the upcoming DRUGS music video as “crazy”, and noted that it will be released later this month.
In addition to this, vocalist Tsuzuku is currently touring Europe under his tzkwym project, on a co-headline tour alongside THE DEVIL INSIDE. The tour started on May 8th in Paris, and concludes on May 21st in Milan. Tickets for the remaining dates are still available via Killing Daze.
