Creepy Nuts look back on their global rise on new single ‘Running Wheel’

Creepy Nuts will release new single ‘Running Wheel’ on August 19th, their first release since ‘Fright’ arrived alongside their Coachella debut in April.

Built on DJ Matsunaga’s phonk-influenced production, the song sets futuristic sound design against R-Shitei’s rapid-fire verses, which document the duo’s journey from Japan’s underground rap scene to international festival stages. Recent milestones, including Coachella, are referenced throughout the lyrics.

“We poured everything we’ve experienced recently into the lyrics, while opening up a completely new musical direction”, the duo said of the track. “We can’t wait for people to hear it”.

In February, ‘Bling-Bang-Bang-Born’ and ‘Otonoke’ made them the first Japanese artists to earn RIAA Gold for two separate Japanese-language songs, and in April they became the first Japanese hip-hop act to close Coachella’s Gobi Stage, headlining the tent on both festival weekends during their first North American tour.

‘Running Wheel’ was written for Honda’s latest N-BOX CUSTOM commercial campaign, and is the first original artist-commissioned song ever created for the N-BOX, Japan’s best-selling car. The nationwide campaign, which also featured the duo’s 2021 anthem ‘Nobishiro’, launched on July 16th, with previews of the song arriving on TikTok and Instagram the following day.

This autumn, Creepy Nuts join The Weeknd as special guests for stadium shows in Japan, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, and Malaysia on the After Hours Til Dawn Tour: The Final Leg / Live in Asia. Additional dates were added in Tokorozawa, Bangkok, and Kuala Lumpur after initial shows sold out almost immediately, including The Weeknd’s first concerts in Japan in nearly seven years.
