Tomoko Kawase has surprise-released ‘LIVING DEAD DINER GIRLS -HALLOWEEN-‘ under her Tommy heavenly6 alias, the first release using the name in around 11 years. The digital single dropped on July 31st, and lands alongside news of a cinema screening tour in Japan, and two limited analogue box set releases.
A community post on the official Tommy heavenly6 YouTube channel announced the release, a Halloween version of her 2015 track ‘LIVING DEAD DINER GIRLS’. “Blending Halloween, gothic, rock, and pop culture, this release gives Tommy heavenly6’s distinctive world a Halloween makeover”, the post said, describing it as a surprise for fans who have been waiting many years.
The original ‘LIVING DEAD DINER GIRLS’ appeared on ‘Tommy’s Halloween Fairy Tale’, a six-track EP released on October 21st, 2015, which split its running order between the Tommy heavenly6 and Tommy february6 personas. The EP reached number 28 on the Oricon albums chart.
Kawase’s solo work is in the middle of a sustained international resurgence. Y2K fashion and the wider Heisei-era pop culture revival have pulled in a new audience led by overseas Gen Z listeners, and ‘Lonely in Gorgeous’, her 2005 Tommy february6 single written as the opening theme to the Paradise Kiss anime, had passed 1.6 billion TikTok views by last November.
That momentum produced Tommy february6: The Screening, a live film that played to sold-out crowds in New York and Los Angeles in 2025. Screenings start in Japan later this year at cinemas in Nagoya and Osaka on Friday, October 30th, and in Tokyo on Saturday, October 31st. Individual cinemas and ticket details have yet to be announced.
