YOASOBI vocalist Ikura has shared an update on the toilet paper situation at Sony Music Japan’s head office, the subject of a viral exchange in February between her bandmate Ayase and ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION frontman Masafumi Gotoh.
On Monday August 31st, Ikura replied directly to Ayase’s original post, revealing that something had changed in the label’s loos.
“The toilet paper at the Sony Music headquarters has gotten softer!!”

The unlikely saga began on February 17th, when Ayase complained that the paper at the label’s head office was painfully rough. His original post has now reached 9.6 million views.
“The toilet paper at Sony Music’s headquarters is so hard it tore my anus to shreds.”

Gotoh replied several hours later, comparing the thin single-ply paper to sandpaper and asking Sony Music Japan to switch to double-ply.

Following Ikura’s update, Gotoh joined the celebration.

Whether Sony Music Japan actually switched to the double-ply requested by Gotoh remains unclear. Ikura’s report most likely came from the women’s toilets, so Ayase may want to check the men’s for himself before getting his hopes up.
Ayase is best known as the composer and producer of YOASOBI alongside vocalist Ikura. Gotoh has fronted ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION since the band formed in Yokohama in 1996, with the group releasing their major-label work through Ki/oon Music, a Sony Music Japan imprint, since 2002.
