SCANDAL, three days after celebrating their 20th anniversary at Osaka-jo Hall, have announced that they will end their activities on August 21st 2027. The four-piece rock band will embark on a final 52-date tour of all 47 prefectures of Japan, before a closing one-man show at Yokohama Arena on the 21st anniversary of their formation.
The announcement came on August 24th via the band’s official website, following their 20th anniversary concert, SCANDAL 20th Anniversary Live “Chapter 20” at Osaka-Jo Hall, held on August 21st. HARUNA, MAMI, TOMOMI, and RINA released a joint statement explaining the decision.
“On August 21, 2026, SCANDAL celebrated its 20th anniversary with the “SCANDAL 20th Anniversary Live ‘Chapter 20’ at Osaka-Jo Hall”.
SCANDAL
Osaka-Jo Hall is the stage the four of us dreamed of standing on when we had just formed the band. Over the years, we have celebrated many important days on the stage here at Osaka-Jo Hall.
On this important day marking 20 years as a band, we are proud to be standing here once again, still the same four members we were back then.
To everyone who came to the venue, watched the livestream, and celebrated our 20th anniversary with us, we would like to express our deepest gratitude.
After this performance, there is something the four of us would like to tell you.
Our 20-year journey as SCANDAL will reach its final chapter on August 21, 2027.
Over these years, we have traveled throughout Japan and around the world. Through the places we have been able to visit, the people we have met, and the many experiences we could only have had by living our lives as SCANDAL, the four of us feel that we have truly done all that we could together.
Deciding how to bring an end to a band that has been together for this long was truly difficult. But after talking it over many times, the four of us eventually came to this conclusion.
As our final journey together, we will tour all 47 prefectures of Japan starting this October, and on August 21, our 21st anniversary, we will hold a solo concert at Yokohama Arena.
Over this final year together, we’ll cherish every show and every day, and we’ll keep playing as the four of us until the very last moment.”
SCANDAL formed in Kyobashi, Osaka on August 21st 2006, and almost immediately began street performances at Shiroten, the stretch of Osaka Castle Park directly in front of Osaka-jo Hall. Playing a one-man show at the hall was the first dream the four teenagers set for themselves, and the August 2026 anniversary concert was their fourth one-man show at the venue that has run through so much of their history.
Their newly announced tour will take them back through all 47 prefectures across 52 performances, nine years after their first 47-prefecture tour in 2017, which ran for 53 shows. Yokohama Arena is familiar territory too, with SCANDAL having played two consecutive nights there in June 2014, which made them only the second female rock band to perform on two consecutive days at the venue, and the first since female rock pioneers PRINCESS PRINCESS 23 years earlier.
The band will also hold their annual Christmas show, “BEST★Xmas 2026”, at Toyosu PIT in Tokyo on December 24th, 2026, with details to follow. Their final one-man show takes place at Yokohama Arena in Kanagawa on August 21st, 2027.
About SCANDAL
SCANDAL are a four-piece rock band formed in Osaka in August 2006 by HARUNA (vocals/guitar), MAMI (guitar/vocals), TOMOMI (bass/vocals), and RINA (drums/vocals). The four met through a dance and vocal school and began performing around Osaka, including street shows at Osaka Castle Park, before making their major-label debut with 'DOLL' in October 2008. The following year, 'Shoujo S' earned SCANDAL the New Artist Award at the Japan Record Awards. Songs including 'Shoujo S', 'Shunkan Sentimental', and 'HARUKAZE' were used in major anime series such as Bleach and Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, helping the band build an international audience alongside regular touring in Japan and overseas. Their career has included arena shows, world tours, and a 53-show tour of all 47 Japanese prefectures in 2017. In 2019, SCANDAL launched their private label her, through which they have continued to release new music while retaining the same four-member line-up. On August 21st 2023, Guinness World Records recognised them for the Longest running rock band with the same musicians (female), measured at 16 years and 358 days from their first professional performance. SCANDAL marked their 20th anniversary in 2026 with their 12th studio album 'ECHO' and the SCANDAL 20th Anniversary Live "Chapter 20" at Osaka-jo Hall. In August 2026, the band announced that their 20-year journey as SCANDAL will reach its final chapter on August 21st 2027. Their final year includes a tour of all 47 prefectures beginning in October 2026, followed by a final one-man concert at Yokohama Arena on their 21st anniversary.
