Crystal Lake reveal new album ‘The Weight of Sound’ with guest vocalists from Killswitch Engage and more

Crystal Lake will release their seventh studio album, ‘The Weight of Sound’, on January 23rd 2026 through Century Media Records. The title track’s official video arrived on October 10th, confirming a record first hinted at when the band signed to the German label in 2024.

The album pulls in a list of guests from across heavy music: Jesse Leach (Killswitch Engage), David Simonich (Signs Of The Swarm), Taylor Barber (Seven Hours After Violet), Myke Terry of Fire From The Gods and Volumes, and Karl Schubach (ex-Misery Signals). The Japanese CD edition, released the same day, will include two live recordings from Summer Breeze Open Air 2025, ‘Mephisto’, first issued as the B-side to their 2021 single ‘Curse’, and ‘Disobey’, originally appearing as the B-side to 2020’s ‘Watch Me Burn’.

Guitarist and founding member YD spoke about the record’s spirit and its connection to the band’s journey:

“When I look back, I realise that CRYSTAL LAKE has now been active for 23 long years. People often say, ‘time flies,’ but the truth is we’ve carved out countless histories together – with friends, bandmates, and fellow musicians – sharing struggles that drew blood and building this band piece by piece. I have constantly been inspired by the people and the environment around me. To play that music together with comrades-in-arms is what it means to be a band. And the music that band creates has the power to shape a new culture. Our new album The Weight of Sound is a reflection of this way of life. I truly hope you will listen and enjoy it.”

Vocalist John Robert Centorrino added insight into the title track’s themes:

“I wrote this after being gone from home for a long period and it mirrors those emotions of being on tour for a majority of the year – you are quite literally never there for the people you love when they need you. So people don’t always believe in your struggle and there is a lot of doubt from all sides. But I believe in myself and this life. I’ll carry the weight of sound forever. The song is probably my favourite song lyric wise from the album. As the saying goes: ‘They only believe in you at the top of the mountain. You’re a fool along the way.’”

The single ‘The Weight of Sound’ was released alongside its video on October 10th via Century Media’s YouTube channel. The record follows nearly a decade of intense touring, including recent international support slots with HANABIE. and THROWN. Featuring a lineup of guest vocalists, their first album release under the Century Media banner points to a move toward more collaborative projects.

Crystal Lake are midway through their CHAMPIONSHIP TOUR 2025 across Japan and will perform at LOUD PARK 25 tomorrow, October 13th, at Saitama Super Arena. The tour continues through the month with stops in Fukuoka alongside Sable Hills, Hiroshima with NOISEMAKER, Osaka with Fear, and Loathing in Las Vegas, then Akita and Sendai with SHADOWS.
