ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION to perform opening theme for final arc of Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE

ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION will perform the opening theme for the third cour of Dr. STONE SCIENCE FUTURE. Their new song ‘Skins’ will debut when the anime returns on April 2nd, beginning the final chapter of the anime, which first premiered in 2019.

This upcoming cour adapts the story’s Moon Mission Arc, as Senku and the Kingdom of Science prepare for their final confrontation with Why-man. Based on the manga by Riichiro Inagaki and Boichi, Dr. STONE follows science prodigy Senku as he attempts to rebuild civilisation thousands of years after humanity was mysteriously petrified.

Frontman Masafumi Gotoh, who wrote and composed the track, shared his thoughts on writing the song for the series:

“Rather than them, perhaps it’s actually those of us outside the world of the anime who should be the ones to start civilization over from scratch. I’ve found myself thinking recently. I hope that beyond an era where people can truly travel to the moon, a bright future awaits. I wrote this song for Dr. STONE as something you can dance to while carrying all kinds of worries and differences.”

The song will receive a standalone single release on May 27th. It will also include the B-side ‘Shioiri Nightfall’, composed and written by guitarist Kensuke Kita. A portion of ‘Skins’ can already be heard in the latest promotional video for the upcoming cour.

Additionally, ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION recently released the music video for ‘Okaeri Johnny’, the lead track from their upcoming ‘Fujieda EP’, which arrives on March 25th. The track features chorus vocals from vocalist and pianist Ikuko Harada of Clammbon.

Filmed in Fujieda City, Shizuoka Prefecture, the video stars actress Hirona Yamazaki as a woman returning to her hometown after growing tired of city life. It opens with Yamazaki eating Fujieda’s local “morning ramen” (asa-ra), where frontman Masafumi Gotoh makes a brief cameo as the shop owner serving her. The story then moves through flashbacks of her childhood friendship and early band performances, intercut with scenes of ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION performing at MUSIC inn Fujieda, Gotoh’s residential recording studio where the EP was recorded.

Ahead of the release, the band also revealed the EP’s jacket artwork by long-time collaborator Yusuke Nakamura. The cover incorporates wisteria flowers, the official flower of Fujieda City.

The EP arrives shortly before ASIAN KUNG-FU GENERATION begin their 30th anniversary celebration concerts. These include the two-night “Thirty Revolutions” show at Tokyo’s Ariake Arena in April, followed by international performances in Jakarta, Mexico City, Peru, and Santiago later this year.
